I was remembering that when I started to play the guitar in a band, the whole thing of composing was literally a hell to me, first, I used to think what kind of song I wanted to write, and I used to try by writing a riff, hours and hours of wandering used to lead me to a complete depression, because in the end everything sounded the same, or it was already written before by other bands.
The voice in my head said to me: "avoid making a song that sound similar to another one, even the ones we already play on the band", of course there were songs already written, not by me, but wait a second...
That are too many fuckings limitations!!!!!
Writing a song should be different, isn't it?
So, as you can see the thing it has nothing to do with the technique, the planification or your shredding capacity, if you're trying to walk the songwriter's path, you should start to search the melodies deep in your heart, and not in your brains, the music is something strange, because is made of a theory based on maths, division of notes, frequences, and techniques that is completely different to the result of it: the physical expression (because you play the guitar with your hands) of the music of the human soul, that can only be a gift of God, so when is about writing forget your idols, forget about "what's right or wrong", and let yourself flow in the stream of your soul.
I think that is good to have some idols, but you must never let that admiration become imitation, the ones who are idols walked through the path that I'm trying to share, and I'm not saying that I'm completely through (I'm just starting), but is really good to share the good stuff we learn, in the past years it was different, everyone tried to keep secrets, guitar techniques, concepts, but today the new generation shares everything, today we're free...
So, the guitar players of the future would be people connected to their soul, free to play the most delicate feeling without leaving the loud noises, I think of it as a new birth of the music, a new era for us all: the guitar players of today.
